Having traded in a tight, but mostly upwards, trend for the past couple of months, investors in Autodesk Inc NASDAQ: ADSK got a small pre-Thanksgiving surprise last week. And not the good kind.
Autodesk's shares have fallen by a third over the past three years despite solid earnings growth. ADSK's transition to a subscription-based model and accelerated growth during the pandemic drove increased sales and revenues. Valuations have come down significantly, but remain high, making it difficult to be optimistic about the near-term outlook.
Autodesk's third-quarter earnings exceeded analysts' expectations. The company expects slower revenue growth through fiscal 2025.

Although the revenue and EPS for Autodesk (ADSK) give a sense of how its business performed in the quarter ended October 2023, it might be worth considering how some key metrics compare with Wall Street estimates and the year-ago numbers.
Autodesk Inc (NASDAQ:ADSK) shares moved up as much as 4% in Tuesday's after-hours session after the engineering software company reported third quarter fiscal 2024 financial results that exceeded Wall Street expectations. Its adjusted earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter came in at $2.07, while revenue rose 10% year over year to $1.41 billion, which was boosted by expansions from existing clients.
