Synopsys Inc. (SNPS) stock jumped early Tuesday after the company announced a cash-and-stock acquisition of Ansys Inc. (ANSS) after a seven-year relationship in semiconductor design and simulation between the two.

U.S. equities started the shortened trading week lower at midday as the yield on the 10-year Treasury note jumped above 4% amid concerns that expectations of Fed rate cuts this year might be overblown. The Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq were all lower.

The deal was the latest sign of changes in the tech sector, as artificial intelligence booms and sales of some hardware slows.

Synopsys Inc (NASDAQ:SNPS) announced on Tuesday an agreement to acquire engineering and product design software company Ansys in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at approximately $35 billion, as Synopsys makes a push into the artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor-design "megatrends."  Ansys shareholders will receive $197 in cash and 0.3450 common shares of Synopsys for each Ansys share held.
