I maintain a hold rating on Mohawk Industries due to market softness, pricing pressure, and declining consumer confidence impacting demand. MHK reported a 5.7% y/y decrease in net sales, with mixed segment performance and a consolidated adj. EBIT margin drop to 4.8%. Persistent pricing pressure and competitive market conditions constrain MHK's margin expansion, despite potential tariff-related price hikes.

The headline numbers for Mohawk Industries (MHK) give insight into how the company performed in the quarter ended March 2025, but it may be worthwhile to compare some of its key metrics to Wall Street estimates and the year-ago actuals.

CALHOUN, Georgia, May 01, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mohawk Industries, Inc. (NYSE: MHK) today announced first quarter 2025 net earnings of $73 million and earnings per share (“EPS”) of $1.15; adjusted net earnings were $96 million, and adjusted EPS was $1.52. Net sales for the first quarter of 2025 were $2.5 billion, a decrease of 5.7% as reported and a decrease of 0.7% adjusted for constant days and exchange rates versus the prior year. MHK's first-quarter 2025 results are likely to reflect a declining sales trend due to a softer residential market. That said, restructuring actions and cost-saving efforts bode well.
Mohawk Industries has seen significant stock decline and operational deterioration, despite restructuring efforts, making it a 'hold' candidate for now. Revenue dropped from $11.74 billion in 2022 to $10.84 billion in 2024, driven by lower legacy sales volume and pricing changes. Cost-cutting initiatives have improved adjusted net income and operating cash flow, but trade wars and tariffs pose significant risks.
Mohawk Industries (MHK) doesn't possess the right combination of the two key ingredients for a likely earnings beat in its upcoming report. Get prepared with the key expectations.
